Carpet Cleaning Tips:

Overwetting
The biggest danger is that the carpet will get too wet. If moisture reaches a carpet's backing, any number of problems may result. There may be a separation of the secondary backing of the carpet from the primary backing. Mildew may develop if a carpet remains wet for several days. Wood floors beneath the carpet surface may suffer warpage or other damage. This problem is avoided by Unique Upholstery, Carpet, & Rug Cleaning Inc. as we thoroughly extract the water and soil from your carpet, leaving your carpet almost dry,  as well as clean.

Cleaning agent problems
Several problems can arise because of improper choices or handling of cleaning agents. Using the wrong dilution ratio or choosing cleaning agents that leave a sticky residue are the biggest culprits. Some cleaning agents contain substances that may cause allergic reactions or have other harmful effects. You can be rest assured that Unique thouroughly rinses and extracts the cleaning agents from your carpeting avoiding  possible health problems. We also take special care to ensure the correct cleaning agents are used on your fine Oriental rugs.

Furniture replacement
Always be sure that  plastic tabs, foil tabs, or styrofoam blocks, are used when your furniture is replaced on your newly cleaned carpeting. Failure to do so may result in rust or wood stains.

Our first tip is be sure the company you choose has the knowledge and experience needed to avoid carpet the above cleaning problems.

Other carpet cleaning tips are as follows:

  • Discuss with the firm you choose in advance whether there are any stains or other problems that it will not guarantee it can remove.
  • In preparation for cleaning, remove or raise hanging objects which might be hit by cleaning personnel. Move valuables from the area such as bric-a-brac, antiques, and breakables before the carpet service comes to move your furniture. Lift draperies that might touch or nearly touch the carpet.
  • Alert the carpet technician about any weak furniture legs, seams in the carpet (if you know where they are), and any other potential problem areas.
  • Describe your carpet's past cleaning. If shampoo was used without extraction, the technician may have to compensate for alkaline residues and excessive foaming from previous jobs. If powder was used your technician may have to  use extra liquid to compensate for absorption by the powder that still remains in your carpet fibers.
  • Before the technician leaves, ask for any special instructions and an estimate of carpet drying time. Don't put anything on top of the carpet to walk on, as this will slow drying. If you must walk on the carpeting, wear clean white socks.
  • Leave all moisture shields under furniture legs until you are absolutley sure the carpet is dry. Otherwise any freshly stained wood pieces may bleed color into your carpet. Also metal furniture bottoms may rust, causing your carpet to stain.
  • Many companies charge extra to deodorize your carpet and upholstery. At Unique Upholstery, Carpet, & Rug Cleaning Inc. there is never any extra charge for deodorizing..
